Festival Internacional de Cinema sobre a Migração

1 em cada 7 pessoas no mundo vive fora do seu país. Já te questionaste sobre as razões pelas quais as pessoas deixam os seus países e quais os desafios que enfrentam quando procuram por uma vida melhor?

Para assinalar o Dia Internacional do Migrante, a OIM está a organizar a 2ª edição do Festival Internacional de Cinema sobre a Migração. Este festival é uma oportunidade para celebrar a diversidade e a contribuição dos migrantes nas comunidades e países onde vivem. O objetivo é apresentar filmes que capturam as esperanças e os desafios das pessoas que saem das suas casas em busca de uma vida melhor e de mostrar as suas contribuições nas novas comunidades.
Esta iniciativa foi organizada em Portugal em parceira com a Câmara Municipal de Lisboa e o Alto Comissariado para as Migrações.

Programa:

5 de dezembro – Auditório da Biblioteca Orlando Ribeiro (19h00)
Sound of Torture – Um filme de Keren Shayo
(59 min – filme em inglês, hebraico e tigrínia com legendas em inglês)

Sound of Torture aborda o tema dos milhares de refugiados eritreus que fogem do seu país, governado por um ditador militar, para encontrar refúgio em Israel. A viagem é feita através do deserto do Sinai no Egipto. Muitas destas pessoas são sequestradas por traficantes beduinos e levados para acampamentos onde são torturados, violados e forçados a contactar os seus familiares para pedir um resgate em troca da sua liberdade. Este documentário acompanha uma jornalista e activista eritreia que vive na Suécia. No seu programa de rádio, fala com reféns nestes campos enquanto regista os seus pedidos de ajuda, e dá apoio às respectivas famílias.

15 de dezembro – Casa dos Direitos Sociais em Marvila (19h00)
Nanny – Um filme de Tatiana Fernandez Geara
(70 min – filme em espanhol com legendas em inglês)

“Nanny” explora a jornada dolorosa das amas que migram da República Dominicana para os EUA com o objetivo de enviarem dinheiro para os seus filhos. Este filme foca as dificultades de três amas dominicanas que deixaram os seus filhos ao cuidado de familiares e que tomam conta dos filhos de outras pessoas. O filme mergulha na complexidade das relações entre pais e filhos.

18 de dezembro – Cinema São Jorge (19h00)
The Journey – Um filme de Matthew Cassel
(67 min – filme em árabe, holandês e inglês com legendas em inglês)

The Journey é um documentário no qual o realizador Matthew Cassel segue Aboud Shalhoub, durante 1 ano, na sua viagem da Síria até à Europa.

No final de cada documentário iremos promover uma conversa informal com migrantes e refugiados.
A entrada é gratuita e sujeita à lotação do espaço.

Did you know that 1 out of every 7 people in the world lives out of of their country? Have you already thought about the reasons leading someone to leave their own country and the challenges they can face looking for a better life?

Marking the International Migration Day, IOM is organizing the 2nd edition of the Global Migration Film Festival. This festival is an opportunity to celebrate the diversity of migration and migrants’ contribution to the countries in which they live. The aim is to show films which capture the hopes and challenges of people who leave their homes looking for a better life.

This is an initiative organised in Portugal by IOM, in partnership with the Lisbon Municipality and the Portuguese High Commision for Migration.

5th December – Auditório da Biblioteca Orlando Ribeiro (19h00)
Sound of Torture
(59 min – film in English, Hebrew and and Tigrinya with English subtitles)
Since Europe closed its borders in 2006, thousands of Eritrean refugees fled their military dictator-ruled country towards Israel. The only way out is across the Sinai desert in Egypt. There, many are kidnapped by Bedouin smugglers and taken to camps where they are tortured, raped and forced to call their relatives begging for ransom for their release. We follow an Eritrean journalist-activist living in Sweden. On her radio program she talks to hostages in the camps while recording their pleas for help, as well as their family members raising money for their release. We also follow two refugees that made it into Israel in their attempt to save their loved ones’ lives.

15th December – Casa dos Direitos Sociais em Marvila (19h00)
Nanny

“Nanny” explores the heartbreaking journey Dominican nannies must take so they can send money to their children back home. It focuses on the conflicts faced by three Dominican nannies that leave their children in the care of relatives and raise other people’s children. The film navigates the complexity of parent-children relationships.

18th December – Cinema São Jorge (19h00)
The Journey
(67 min – film in Arabic, Dutch and English with English Subtitles)
For 31-year-old Aboud, seeking asylum in Europe is the only way the Syrian father can reunite with his wife and two children. The only problem is getting there. This film follows Aboud for a year as he sets out on a grueling and uncertain journey from Istanbul to the Netherlands, while his wife Christine and their children leave their home in Damascus for their new life in Europe.

An informal conversation with migrants and refugees will be promoted at the end of each documentary.

The entrance is free.
